The Hidden Root: Honoring Afro-American Pioneers

We will celebrate Mexico’s “Third Root”—its rich and often overlooked African heritage—through an evening of shared history, community, and remembrance. We’ll dedicate an altar to three trailblazing Afro-descendant figures who fought for freedom and justice: Isabel de Olvera, Vicente Guerrero, and Sael Silva Cisneros.

Come for the history, the fresh buñuelos and traditional Afro-Mexican chilate (a delicious cold, spiced-cacao beverage)!

This event is free and open to the community. Please feel free to invite any friends who are enthusiastic learners of cultures—we would love to share this beautiful legacy with them.
