42nd Street – Young Performer’s Edition

Local high school and middle school students will present the young performers’ adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical “42nd Street” this weekend at the Avalon Theatre.
Show times are 7 p.m. Friday, May 31, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2.
Produced by Avalon Children’s Theatre, the young performers’ edition of the show-biz musical “42nd Street” celebrates Broadway, Times Square and the people who make the magic of musical theater.
Featuring Broadway standards such as “We’re in the Money” and “Lullaby of Broadway,” the show follows aspiring chorus girl Peggy Sawyer, who comes to the big city from Allentown, Pa., and soon lands her first big job in the ensemble of a glitzy new Broadway show.
But just before opening night, the leading lady breaks her ankle. The question is, will Peggy be able to step in at the last minute and become the star of the show?
